Dear brothers and sisters in Christ in the CLCP,
In light of the recent signs of the times in our country - the misuse of public funds in anomalous flood control projects and questionable shortcuts in the budget process of our Congress - we are called to reflect, discern and respond to God’s call to us, as one lay, Ignatian, discerning, apostolic, community, guided by our CLC General Principles and our Church Social Teachings.
Our GP 4 states: “We aim to become committed Christians in bearing witness to those human and Gospel values within the Church and society, which affect the dignity of the person, the welfare of the family and the integrity of creation. We are particularly aware of the pressing need to work for justice through a preferential option for the poor and a simple lifestyle, which expresses our freedom and solidarity with them.”
As one lay, Ignatian, discerning, apostolic community, we are sharing our Christian Life Community in the Philippines’ stand on the misuse of public funds and corruption in governance. We are also sharing the following documents for your personal and/or communal reflection:
(1) Community Meeting Module to prayerfully reflect on the CLCP Stand and a Guide to Examining My Personal Life and Choosing What is Right Against Corruption in Governance to aid in our prayer and discernment, and
(2) Suggested weekly prayer intentions that you can integrate with your daily Rosary prayers for the month of October.
We express our solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are affected by the recent typhoons (Nando and Opong) in our country. We request for everyone’s prayers and generosity in aid of our affected communities.
May we continue to stand for truth, justice and the common good, as “we seek to follow Jesus Christ more closely and work with him for the building of the Kingdom, and as we participate in Christ’s mission - bringing about maturity in faith and social justice, with a sense of urgency, availability and disponibility.”
In Christ’s peace,
