Election Discernment E-campaign

This is meant to make a net-wide "community statement" by having a common/uniform Facebook cover page every week. Each member is invited to join in posting every week one of the commandments from the Decalogue in their FB cover page, with a corresponding statement/criterion that we use in discerning about each candidate based on a particular Commandment. The Formation Team will be launching it on February 16 as we simultaneously change our CLCP and personal FB cover pages. This will be done every Wednesday at 10am. Materials for the cover page can be accessed through this link: Facebook Cover Pages. We will change our cover page every Wednesday.

We must ensure that we remain open to the voice of our conscience within. When our conscience calls, we must be true to it and heed its call for that is the only dignified way to be and to live as a Filipino Catholic and CLC member.

Sinusunod ba ng kandidato mo ang utos ng Diyos na ito? Mahaba pa ang ating lalakbayin at marami pa tayong maaaring madiskubre hanggang sa eleksyon. Magdasal po tayo nang matindi para sa atin, sa ating mga namumuno at para sa bayan nating minamahal.

Bilang tugon sa panawagan ng ating Santo Papa Francisco ngayong Miyerkules ng Abo, Marso 2, 2022, tayo ay hinihimok na ilaan ang araw na ito sa matinding panalangin at pag-aayuno. Tayong lahat ay hinihikayat na kumain lamang ng "one full meal," umiwas sa karne, at manalangin para sa kapayapaan lalo na sa Ukraine. Ang panalangin at pag-aayuno ay ating daan para sa kapayapaan bilang isang Simbahan.

Maging mapanuri po tayo bilang tugon sa ating pananampalataya. Huwag po tayo magsara ng isipan. Ang discernment po ay nangangailangan ng bukas na kaisipan. Tanging sa masama lang po hindi na kailangan ng discernment dahil ang hinihingi ng ating pananampalataya ay piliin natin ang mabuti at iwaksi ang mali sa lahat ng panahon. Nangingilatis or nagdidiscern lang tayo kapag may dalawang pagpipilian na mabuting alternatibo. Sinusunod ba ng kandidato mo ang utos ng Diyos na ito?

Huwag kang magnakaw.

No matter how strong you feel about any candidate, we are duty-bound to still exercise responsibility in discovering/uncovering their background, their achievements and not simply their promises. Look at their accomplishments, not just their looks, fame, gender or name. Let us use credible and fact-checked sources.

9th Commandment: Kumusta ang love life ng kandidato mo? Nakailang asawa o kalaguyo ba siya? Suportado ba niya ang adulterous at promiscuous relationships? May kakayahan ba siyang maging loyal sa isang tao? Kumusta ang pakikitungo niya sa ibang tao - may respeto ba siya sa kapwa?

Does your candidate rejoice in the abundance of other people? Or do they exploit other people's goods in order to satisfy their personal interests? May we choose good leaders who are honest and empower people to make use of their resources instead of taking advantage of them.

With less than 20 days before the National and Local Elections, we hope that these Ten Commandments have helped you in discerning who to vote for as the leaders of our country in the next 3 or 6 years.
